1) What exactly does Ferpect Edit do?
We improve research papers, college essays and business texts--even those authored by people who already have good writing skills--by editing and proofreading to correct grammar and spelling errors while improving the flow of sentences. We eliminate redundant parts of the text and make specific suggestions for possible expansion. See our About page for more info.
2) Can you do research for me?
Ferpect Edit can give you writing and editing help to shape the work you've already done into a coherent and polished class paper, but we cannot do your research or fact-checking for you.
3) Isn't using a service like Ferpect Edit cheating?
Letting friends or relatives read and give feedback on papers or essays before you hand them in is an accepted practice, one which makes friends and relatives your de facto editors. Unless you are lucky enough to know someone who works as a writer or editor (or has a rare natural talent for revising the writing of others), Ferpect Edit will do a more thorough job of vetting your essay or paper. Because you researched the paper, wrote it and have the final say in accepting or dismissing suggested changes, your work is still yours.
4) Can I submit work that is not in Microsoft Word format?
A Ferpect Editor uses the built-in features of Word to easily and neatly revise your paper. See the answers of questions 6 and 7 for illustrations. We regret that we cannot accept documents in formats other than Word at this time. However you can convert most files easily to Word format by going to the free service at zamzar.com.
5) Why do I get the payment page when I want to submit my paper?
To discourage spam attachments Ferpect Edit has you pay right before you submit your paper. After you approve payment you should automatically be directed to the page where you can send your paper. If for any reason you cannot access this page after submitting payment you should contact us (including the transaction number in the message) and we will resolve the problem. If you are looking for free proofreading and editing (for those new to Ferpect Edit) you should go to our free proofreading and editing page
6) How do I incorporate Ferpect Edit's suggested changes into my final draft?
The edited Word document you receive is the clean, revised version. You can leave it as is if you are happy with the changes. To see the edits alongside the original text, under "Tools" open "Track Changes" then check the boxes next to the first two choices: "Track changes while editing" and "Highlight changes on screen". Your document will then look something (depending on your version of Word) like the screenshot below.

7) Do I have to accept your edits? What if I want to add more to the paper before I hand it in?
Ferpect Edit absolutely wants you to have final say over your paper, including last minute revision. Following the instructions above (in question 6) you can see the original text and recover some if you wish or rephrase a excised passage. Either the clean version or the "Highlight changes on screen" version will let you easily accept most changes (and we do hope you accept most of them) while adding your own. The example below shows how a revision of your own will look onscreen.

8) Can you send me instructions for changing the settings and revising edits?
Ferpect Edit sends easy-to-follow instructions for editing preferences with every edited paper.
9) Do I have to have a special version of Word or be on a PC for Ferpect's editing to work?
No, the editing function is not a new or fancy feature of Word. The screenshots above were (purposefully) taken directly from a no-frills version of MS Word for Office 98--the Mac version.
10) How do I get a referral discount?
Refer a first-time customer to Ferpect Edit and receive up to 17% off the regular freelance proofreading and editing price on your next paper. The new customer should include your name and email address on the form used when submitting a paper. You will then receive an email that includes the discount code you can use when you submit your next paper. Just fill in the code and your discount will kick in automatically.
